Miss Florida Essence
Alexis Gay
Miss Florida Essence 2012
I am extremely proud and honored to be a part of the Essence family! I live in Wellington Florida but grew up in the breath taking islands of the Bahamas, which explains why I sometimes have the wrong accent! I enjoy reading, traveling, and collecting pens (I currently have over 200!) One of my favorite things in the world is my little “doghter” Cali – a yorkie that is convinced she is a human.I am a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and currently work in the field of accounting. I teach skincare and image on weekends and for 3 years, served as the district director for the International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi.
I am passionate about empowering women and desire to be able to help others in a greater capacity. I am currently working on 2 important goals that will help me be able to inspire others and teach others the necessary tools to get rid of debt, build wealth and leave a legacy for their family.
My greatest accomplishment has been finding my true self and learning not only to love myself, but to accept me for who I am despite my imperfections. This has helped me to conquer many of my fears and take on challenges that I previously deemed impossible, which makes me really excited about life! In life you end up where you expect to end up so I strive to set high expectations. Although at times the task at hand may seem difficult, I live by the motto: “Dedication Determination with Discipline brings Success”. Dedication and determination helps me keep focused on the goal despite obstacles and discipline helps me overcome the obstacles to achieve success.
One of the things I plan to do is bring awareness to this pageant system so that modern women will see that there is an avenue for them to pursue their goals and dreams of pageantry and all the positive things that come along with it. This is a place to break free from False Evidence Appearing Real that might have caused them to give up on that dream. Mary Manin Morrissey says, “You block your dreams when you allow fear to grow bigger than your faith.” Having previously competed in this pageant, my main goal was to overcome the fear of public speaking. Not only did I conquer that fear by winning the interview competition, I have gained an amount of self-confidence in addition to many other things that will benefit me in life.
I’ve learned that what happens to you can not defeat you unless you let it get inside of you. I will use this experience to inspire others to step into their greatness. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of this pageant and would like to see many other women get the same opportunity. Despite whatever comes my way, I will continue to fight because those who make it are those who persevere.
