Florida Essence Pageant - Celebrating the "Essence" of Today's Modern Woman

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Missionary Donations
The Florida Essence Pageant is committed to giving back to the community and doing our part to help make the world a better place. Missionary work is vital for the people and the community being cared for in the mission fields, as well as for the missionary volunteers themselves to grow and develop as people. Each delegate is asked to bring at least 5 items to donate to missionary needs. We will be donating our combined goods to Lewis Transitional Home to support their missionary efforts.

Finding items to donate is easy! Think of things that you are not using that someone else could benefit from. Scout your house and ask your neighbor
or friends to look for items they may have just lying around that could be put to good use. Just because you have no use for an item keep your mind open as to how it may be used to benefit someone else who has a greater need than yourself. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
See the list below for ideas of items you can easily find around your house. (Note: this is NOT an all inclusive list, just suggestions)

Shoes • Clothes • Belts • Costume Jewelry • Towels • Perfumes Pens, Pencils • Mirrors • Videos • Air Fresheners • Envelopes of prepared mixes (sloppy joe, taco seasoning, gravy mix) • Hats • Scarves • Canned Food Toys Books Purses • Crayons Umbrellas • Games Sport Balls Holiday Decorations Candles Glasses Blankets Hair Accessories (clips, barrets, pony tail holders) Socks Dishes Combs Backpacks Notebooks Make up CDs • Puzzles • Trinkets • Scissors

Think about gifts you may have received that you didn’t really care for; consider items that you would donate to the Salvation Army or the Goodwill. Please remember to wash any clothing items, linens, blankets etc before donating. All other items should be cleaned as thoroughly as possible.

Remember, being a so called “beauty queen” is about more than a pretty face and trendy clothes. This task of collecting goods for missions is not meant to be something that will take a lot of time or to be a burden upon you. The purpose is to remind everyone involved of how easy it is to give back and make a positive change in society. It is meant to demonstrate the Florida Essence Pageant’s commitment to volunteerism and charitable causes. It is also meant to help prepare the new titleholders for a year of service and volunteer work, and to show how simple it can be and how little time it requires to help others.

When one is honored by becoming a titleholder, a certain amount of social responsibility comes along with that title. The crown is meant to be used as a means to gain expose and publicity for the woman behind the sash to promote her views and beliefs. She is a role model to everyone around her and must have a message that she wants to convey to the crowds (aka “platform”) that will bring about positive change, awareness, or inspiration. Consider this in your pageant preparation.
Keep in mind,  it's not the crown that makes the woman, it's the woman that makes the crown.
